The most recent post by the Food Network, a photo with a recipe link for zucchini casserole, has over 800 comments as of 6:30 p.m. on Friday. While there are comments on both sides, a large majority of the comments skew to the angry and racist side. One thing's for sure: there are a lot of die-hard Paula Deen fans out there.

PST: Wambach praises teammates' help?with record

HARRISON, N.J. ? With history set as the backdrop, Abby Wambach exceeded even her own expectations.

The U.S. Soccer centennial banners lined the field at Red Bull Arena, celebrating 100 years of the federation?s existence. But 160 was the only number that would matter by night?s end.

Wambach had a hat trick inside 30 minutes and scored a fourth goal in first half stoppage time to reach 160 goals, breaking Mia Hamm?s previous world record of 158.

?My teammates know me super well,? she said. ?At halftime they were like, ?you are such an extremist. You are all or nothing. When you want to do something you just do it.? I?m very much like my father in that way.?

Wambach credited her teammates for setting her up throughout the night ? and throughout her career. Even on a night when the world?s attention focused on Wambach, the 5-foot-11-inch forward couldn?t help but try to pass off the spotlight.

?I really through and through believe it in my heart, I?m only as good as my teammates allow me to be,? Wambach said. ?Yes, I score a lot of goals and yes I put myself in positions to score goals, but they do to. And I can?t thank my teammates enough.?

Her teammates, however wouldn?t allow the focus to be anywhere but firmly fixed on the No. 20 shirt in white.

?Honestly, we?re always looking for each other,? said Alex Morgan, who has now assisted 13 of Wambach?s 160 career goals. ?Abby, after she scored three, she was like, ?OK, can we please get it to you now? Can we pass it to you? Let?s go. We?re always looking for each other up top. Making runs for each other, so I think that we play well together; we play selflessly and it has shown in the success of the team.?

Goal No. 159, which gave Wambach sole possession of the record, came when she emphatically headed Megan Rapinoe?s corner kick into the net

?She was on two at that point, so obviously it was going through my head. Just put something good ? let her get up there and try to grab something,? Rapinoe said of her thought process on the corner kick.?

Even given Wambach?s prowess, Rapinoe didn?t think the record was reachable pregame.

?I can?t even believe it,? Rapinoe said. ?I didn?t think that she was going to have a hat trick tonight, to be honest.?

Now Wambach wants to move on from the hype and focus on getting ready for the 2015 World Cup ? a trophy that continues to elude her. And her focus on the record isn?t about herself, it?s about helping Morgan break it ?in much less time than I did.?

Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice and Chartric Darby celebrateGetty Images

Warren Sapp and Michael Strahan do not like each other. When they were active players, Sapp reacted to Strahan breaking the single-season sack record by saying there should be an asterisk next to his record because Brett Favre laid down for the final sack. Strahan responded that there should be a McDonald?s next to Sapp?s house because Sapp is fat. That kind of verbal sniping has continued through the years, and kept going this year when Sapp was voted into the Hall of Fame and Strahan was voted out.

Now Sapp is saying that Strahan should stay out of the Hall of Fame. And Sapp says that if the Hall of Fame Selection Committee wants to put in a good pass rusher, it should look to his own former teammate Simeon Rice over Strahan.

?Simeon was a better rusher than Michael Strahan any day of the week and twice on Sunday,? Sapp told the Tampa Tribune.

Rice was an excellent pass rusher, a three-time Pro Bowler who had double-digit sacks in eight different seasons and 122 sacks in his career, the 13th-highest career total since the NFL started counting sacks in 1982. But was he really a better rusher than Strahan, who in addition to being the single-season record holder is No. 5 in career sacks, with 141.5? According to Sapp, yes.

Sapp says that Rice routinely beat opposing left tackles, while Strahan had an easier job facing right tackles.

?[Rice] didn?t rush the worst lineman,? Sapp said. ?You know the right tackle is the worst of the five. Strahan played right end his first four years. When they were putting the label on him as a bust, they put ?B-U-S . OK, let?s transition him on the other side and see if he can play in his fourth year.? They put him at right end and he couldn?t do it, so they moved him to the weak guy. One-on-one with the [Eagles right tackle] Jon Runyans for eight quarters every year. Sim won?t ever have his name brought up [for the Hall of Fame], and that?s a shame. He?s one of the best pass rushers I?ve ever encountered in my life.?

And, at least in Sapp?s mind, a better pass rusher than Strahan.

Germany-Turkey diplomatic dispute intensifies

BERLIN (AP) ? A diplomatic dispute over Turkey's EU membership bid and a crackdown on demonstrations in the country intensified Friday as Germany summoned the Turkish ambassador over comments made by a minister about Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Merkel on Monday criticized the crackdown by security forces as "much too strong." The chancellor also has long been skeptical of Turkey's ambitions to join the European Union; her coalition government supports continuing membership talks, but this week blocked a decision to move forward the negotiations.

Turkey's minister in charge of EU affairs, Egemen Bagis, suggested on Thursday that Merkel was picking on Turkey for political gain as she attempts to win a third term in September elections.

Bagis said that if Merkel is looking for "internal political material," then "this should not be Turkey." He also pointed to the election defeat last year of then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy, a fellow opponent of Turkey's EU membership.

"If Mrs. Merkel follows and reviews what happened to Sarkozy, who previously tried to use (Turkey) as political material, she will see that the fate of those who mess around with Turkey is not all that good," said Bagis, who is Turkey's chief EU negotiator.

German Foreign Ministry spokesman Andreas Peschke told reporters that ambassador Huseyin Avni Karslioglu was summoned to the ministry Friday.

He would say only that the reason was comments by a Turkish official regarding Germany and the future of the EU membership talks, adding: "These are comments that met with incomprehension ? this is not in order."

In an apparent tit-for-tat action, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Germany's top diplomat was being summoned, because the government wanted to express its "discomfort" with what he called "certain statements that have disturbed Turkey." Davutoglu, who spoke to Turkish state media during a visit to Ukraine, did not specify what statements he meant.

Bagis said Friday he hoped that Germany "steps back from (the) serious mistake" of blocking progress in Turkey's membership talks.

Last month, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said he was hopeful of opening negotiations on another chapter in the membership talks before the end of June. But on Thursday, Germany and the Netherlands blocked a decision to do so.

That chapter concerns regional policies, not Turkey's protests. Asked whether the decision to block its opening was linked to the Turkish crackdown, Peschke said it was down to "open technical questions" on which he wouldn't elaborate.

However, he added that "of course, as always in life, everything is linked to everything else."

Human rights groups have said the protests in Turkey have left more than 5,000 people injured and more than 3,000 were detained and then released.

The demonstrations were sparked by a police crackdown on environmental activists in Istanbul May 31, but protesters also criticized what some regard as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's authoritarian style of leadership.

Merkel also said Monday that "what is happening at the moment in Turkey does not correspond to our idea of the freedom to protest and the freedom of speech."

NATO member Turkey began EU accession negotiations in 2005, but has made little progress, in part reflecting unease among some in Europe to admitting a populous Muslim nation.

Turkey's entry talks cover 35 different areas, or chapters. Only 13 have been opened, and several areas have been frozen over Turkey's refusal to allow ships and planes from Cyprus, an EU member, to enter its ports and airspace.

Germany itself is a potential obstacle to Turkish EU membership given that Merkel and her conservative party have long advocated a lesser, vaguely defined "privileged partnership," though Westerwelle's Free Democrats ? her junior coalition partners? are less skeptical.

A spokesman for Merkel stressed that Germany's support for continuing membership talks remains unchanged.

"Neither the chancellor nor the government are in any way questioning the accession process," Georg Streiter said. "It's not about whether, only about how the accession process is continued."

Commerzbank to cut around 5,200 jobs

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Germany's second-largest lender Commerzbank said on Wednesday it will cut 5,200 jobs, about 12 percent of its 45,000 full-time staff, adding to job-shedding by banks across Europe.

Banks including Lloyds , state-owned Dutch bank ABN AMRO and HSBC have been cutting jobs this year as tougher regulation after the global financial crisis and weak investment returns squeeze profit margins.

Commerzbank, 17 percent state-owned since a bailout during the crisis, posted a net loss of 94 million euros ($126 million) in the first three months of this year and booked a 493 million euro restructuring charge linked to 4,000-6,000 job losses.

Around 3,900 jobs will be eliminated at the core bank in Germany, including 1,800 cuts at the retail bank. These are part of a 2 billion euro overhaul announced in November, which includes a revamp of retail business in Germany.

The German operations employ about 41,000 staff.

Because around 1,000 jobs will be created at Commerzbank's Mittelstandsbank unit that works with medium-sized companies, net job losses will be reduced. Commerzbank will be able to cut headcount without forced redundancies, supervisory board member Mark Roach said.

The cuts do not include staff reductions at Hypothekenbank Frankfurt, a unit formerly known as Eurohypo.

Senate Democrats press ahead on spending bills

WASHINGTON (AP) ? With efforts on a broader budget deal foundering, Senate Democrats moved ahead Thursday with spending bills that ignore a second year of spending cuts mandated under the 2011 budget and debt deal.

The Democratic-led appropriations panel added $91 billion to the spending "cap" called for under current law, setting out on a collision course with the GOP-dominated House, which has opted to stick within the spending limits mandated by Washington's inability to follow up the 2011 law with another deficit-reduction deal.

The Democratic cap equals what was called for in 2011 and is in line with the budget plan passed that passed the Senate in March, which calls for new taxes and spending cuts to replace the automatic cuts, known as sequestration.

At issue is the congressional appropriations process in which 12 individual bills set the day-to-day operating budgets of 15 Cabinet departments and other federal agencies. The bills make up a little more than one-third of the budget, with expensive benefit programs like Medicare and Social Security making up most of the rest.

The 12 bills represent Congress' most basic job but the appropriations process has broken down over the years and is showing signs of grinding to a complete halt this year. Congress is likely to resort yet again to a stopgap spending measure in September that keeps the government running but President Barack Obama has issued a blanket veto threat against the House GOP's spending measures, which reflect not just the sequestration-mandated cuts but transfers $28 billion from domestic programs in order to patch up the Pentagon's budget.

Republicans said that Appropriations Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., should have stayed with the $967 billion cap that Congress is stuck with under sequestration and made the best of a bad situation. That figure is $17 billion below current levels. Mikulski instead opted for a $1.058 trillion cap, but since sequestration remains in place, the White House budget office would have to order another round of across-the-board to chop the bills back to the GOP-endorsed level.

"The majority's top-line number ignores the law and puts us on the path to another sequester," said top panel Republican Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama. "If enacted, a discretionary spending level of $1.058 trillion would trigger an automatic cut that is 65 percent larger than the 2013 sequester."

Democrats countered that the move by House Republicans to boost the Pentagon budget also violates limits under sequestration and that a House defense spending bill would, itself, trigger a sequester.

"While the House plan tries to avoid cuts to defense at the expense of infrastructure and education, they won't be able to protect the Pentagon without an agreement," said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., who sits on the Appropriations Committee. "$552 billion in defense spending would be sequestered back down to $498 billion_unless we can get a bipartisan deal."

There was more bipartisan agreement when the panel turned to spending bills funding the Veterans Affairs Department and a measure funding agriculture programs and Pentagon construction projects.

The $20.9 billion agriculture measure restores House GOP cuts to the popular overseas Food for Peace food aid program and the Womens Infants and Children program that delivers food aid to pregnant women and their babies.
