'This year I'll be running 3 marathons for Alzheimer's, Belfast on the 6th of May, Edinburgh on the 26th of May, and Dublin on the 28th of October. The money raised will be split between Alzheimer's Society who look after Northern Ireland, England and Wales, and Alzheimer's Scotland.
'I was only going to do the Belfast Marathon, then my totally excellent brother called me from Edinburgh and said he was running that, I kind of jumped at the chance to run it with him, both to raise a little more for the charities and to get some quality brother time in before I head off on my travels in December.
'Then I decided to do the Dublin Marathon, because 3 is more impressive than 2, and it?s my lucky number and a magic one at that. To top it all off, my little sister Jennie is going to run the Dublin Marathon with me too.
'My grandad had dementia in his latter years, as did other close family members who have since passed, so your cause is incredibly close to mine and my family's hearts. I have wanted to do something for Alzheimer's Society for some time in memory of my 'Papa'. Raising money for a totally worthwhile cause to help the research and care for those with all different types of dementia, which affects both the elderly and young people.
'This is a charity that is close to my heart due to having seen close family members suffer from dementia in the latter years of their lives. With great sadness we watch our once completely independent friends and family members lose their memory, ability to reason and functionality, and struggle to maintain the character of the people we know and love. Alzheimer's Society helps fund research, volunteers and training so that we can care for our loved ones in the best possible way and hold on to them for as long as possible.
