Gun control group calls on Obama, Romney to lead

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A prominent gun control group is calling on President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney to lead a search for solutions to gun violence.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence says both candidates owe voters concrete plans to reduce violence after the mass shooting in a Colorado movie theater that killed 12 people and injured dozens more.

The group's president, Dan Gross, says Obama's rhetoric about gun control hasn't been met with action. He says it's shameful for political leaders to play politics with the issue when lives could be saved.

Obama has embraced some additional gun restrictions, but has been tepid about irking gun-rights activists by making a robust push for them. Romney says changing the nation's laws won't prevent gun-related tragedies.
