Tom Daley has hit out after a sick Twitter troll accused him of letting down his late father in the Olympics today.
Daley and his partner Pete Waterfield missed out on a medal when they finished fourth in the men's synchronised 10m platform diving event at the Olympics.
Afterwards Daley, whose father Rob died following a cancer battle in May last year, retweeted a message he?d received from ?@Rileyy_69? which said ?you let your dad down i hope you know that.?
The same user sent several other tweets to Daley, including ?hope your crying now you should be?, ?I?d rather support a tramp? and ?he's a little boy who's competing against men?.
At first, once Daley had brought the tweets to the attention of his half a million followers, @Rileyy_69 changed tack and apologised for the jibes.
He posted: ?I'm sorry mate i just wanted you to win cause its the olympics I'm just annoyed we didn't win I'm sorry tom accept my apology.?
As the subjects #GetRileyy_69Banned, #ThingsBetterThanRileyy_69 and Rileyy became among the top trending topics in the UK, he sent further messages, saying: ?please i don't want to be hated I'm just sorry you didn't win i was rooting for you pal to do britain all proud just so upset?
He added: ?i never knew your dad past away I've only just found out my mum past away to man.?
Soon, though, he continued the abuse with a string of tweets containing four-letter words aimed at Daley and Sky News.
Tonight, Dorset Police tweeted: "Regarding tweets to @tomdaley1994 - we are aware of the issue and we are actively looking into it."
Daley also retweeted a link to a petition to ban @GetRileyy_69 from Twitter. It attracted over 10,000 signatures in its first five hours.

Daley will now have to wait until the individual platform on the penultimate day of the Games to claim an Olympic medal - the only honour to have eluded him so far in his career.
The 18-year-old will leave the Olympic Village and return to a training base in Southend for six days in preparation for his anticipated clash with China's world champion Bo Qiu.
Daley memorably beat Bo to win the world platform title as a 15-year-old in Rome, but the Chinese has proved unbeatable since.
Speaking before the Olympics, Daley revealed his father "gave me all the inspiration that I've needed".
The 18-year-old told the BBC: "Winning a medal would make all the struggles that I've had worthwhile. It's been my dream since a very young age to compete at an Olympics.
"I'm doing it for myself and my dad. It was both our dreams from a very young age.
"I always wanted to do it and Dad was so supportive of everything.
"It would make it extra special to do it for him."
